Inside Track - Science
Teachers choice "GCSE Software gets a grade 'A' pass rate

It has been reported that GCSE students whose school purchased the best selling schools software Inside Track to GCSE Success have improved their grades by as much as 50% by using this revision software.
Logotron, the UK’s leading software publisher to schools pledged that it’s Inside Track software would lead to an higher examination pass rate than previously predicted for users.

Reports indicate that the students who opted out of using the software this year, have seen a noticeable difference in the success of exam pass rates compared to those who used the program. King Charles I High School in Kidderminster are one of the schools who have used Inside Track for one year with students whose ability ranged from an ‘A’ to ‘F’ grade. The results were published in the report 'Inside Track to GCSE Success Evaluation Report: published in September 1997', where the Performance was compared to the Teacher's predicted grade. The table below shows the effect the Science Software had on users' grades:

Science Improved Same Worse
User 50% 46% 4%
Non-user 0% 90% 10%

Gary Keany, author of the report writes: “There is no doubt that the users DID out perform non-users in comparison with their January predicted grades. We are eager to increase our IT resources so that more students can use Inside Track in future. We believe that the difference the software made to the students was remarkable, and we will actively encourage other schools in the country to seriously make Inside Track an addition to the school.”

Inside Track is the only revision product available to schools that features the Teacher Management Programme, a system where teachers can monitor and evaluate the revision progress of each student who uses the software. Inside Track is also the only GCSE software to feature the innovative “Self Assessment and Marking” Technique which enables students to really understand how to construct GCSE answers by virtue of playing the role of their own examiner.

This unique product is also available as a home learning package to support its use in the class room. All areas of the syllabus are covered and is suitable for all UK examination boards. The popularity of the schools version has resulted in a keen interest in the home version and Logotron has developed a separate distribution deal with Guildhall to handle arrangements into retail channels. The Longman Inside Track to GCSE Success is priced at £14.99 and is available in Maths, English, Science and Geography.

The Inside Track to GCSE Success provides up to 1200 students with up to 70 hours of individualised exam revision instruction per subject, focusing primarily on examination technique. It allows students to gain insights into their own strengths and weaknesses in particular subjects, by comparing their own work with example answers produced by leading examination board examiners. (Hence the Insider Knowledge name). A likely grade for their own GCSE exam is also predicted.

For teachers, there are utilities which produce comprehensive progress and diagnostic reports on individual class groups, and give them the ability to create and print out an almost infinite number of tests, with and without sample answers, from a database of hundreds of past exam questions. These are licensed from the Northern, Midland, Oxford and Cambridge examination boards.

The software on CD-ROM provides the student with a structured revision programme in examination technique. The key lies in the company's name, in that students become privy to the "Inside Knowledge" needed for passing examinations. By enabling students to appreciate what the examiner will be looking for, the software encourages them to revise appropriately and respond to examination questions in a structured way, maximising their marks potential.

The teacher's component of the software enables the students' progress to be monitored and custom-made test papers to be constructed from the extensive bank of questions and model answers available.

Longman Logotron will also produce student editions of each of the programs, for individual home study use. These will be released in October 1996 on CD ROM.
